Miss Universe 2011
Fearless Forecast
The Miss Universe pageant has been dubbed as the most prestigious athletics of beauty and brains in the world being given with so much focus and publicity by the international media. It forever changes the life of the girl whose personality stands out amongst the others and exudes a plethora of charisma and magnetism.
Now, the pageant celebrates its 60th year of existence. With that being said, it surely raises the competition among the girls a hundred notch higher. As a new decade starts, a new format in the pageant will definitely be introduced by the Miss Universe Organization. In fact, another spot is being added in this year’s semifinals for the girl who receives the highest averaged text votes. Usually, the format for the Miss USA pageant is also being used for the Miss Universe.
A lot of pageant experts are saying that this year’s batch of candidates is lacking the energy and the spunk that the previous editions of the pageant had which comes as an irony amidst the festive ambiance in Sau Paulo, Brazil. However, there were still standouts in this year’s batch most especially those who are very much hungry to bring home the crown.
So, with careful observation and analysis let me present to you the trends that are happening in the Miss U pageant.
Trends:
- Take note of the countries that made it in last year’s top 15, it is very probable that some of the delegates from those countries will most likely make it to this year’s first cut. Their predecessors already made their mark during their batch, so their successors’ task now is to strut their own stuff and do much better for them to make it to this year’s semis.
- Czech Republic has been making it to the top 15 for the past 4 years, while Australia and South Africa has been in the top 15 for the past 3 years. Will they still make it thru the first cut?
- European beauties have been dominating the list of semifinalists; however, it is the Latina beauties who give a very consistent performance to last until the final round. With a good bunch of Asians delegates this year, will it be the orientals turn to dominate the Semifinals?
- The hometown girl makes it to the Semis most of the time together with the girl who is representing the country who is currently wearing the crown.
With some help from a good friend of mine, Apol, we chose the girls who did very well during the preliminary competition. Thus making our list of Top 15, so in no particular order, here are the women who stood out for us:
AUSTRALIA

Miss Australia has been very controversial at the start of the pageant due to her remarks to an alleged cosmetic procedure that was done to Jennifer Hawkins. Will she be able to continue the semi finals streak done by her predecessors?
CHINA

this 6ft stunner has wowed the audience during the preliminary competition. Her statuesque body has caught the focus of the entire Credicard hall in Sau Paulo. However, her web interview has been the butt of jokes all over the net.
GREECE

Miss Greece is a silent but deadly delegate. She wasn’t talked about that much during the post arrival days until she walked in her evening gown with much grandeur and finesse. From then one she has been consistently included in the choices of renowned pageant experts.
BRAZIL

The hometown girl. Being the delegate from the host country, much burden is put on her shoulders to remain very consistent all through out the pageant. However she didn’t fail the pageant savvies in the globe for she rocked during the preliminary competition. However, one thing is quite puzzling, how can she be booed in her home court? Unless, a different sector is rooting for her failure.
COLOMBIA

Miss Colombia has been a media favorite since the pageant started. However, the table was turned when her scandalous photo went viral in the web. Her “jumpsuit” inspired gown has raised an eyebrow for all the pageant enthusiasts who prefer the “traditional” long gown.
USA

This girl grows thinner and thinner each day. Miss USA has always been known for her Auburn colored hair but she used to be a blonde. She has jumped to compete for the Miss California crown after she didn’t win the Miss New Jersey title. She even beat former Miss Teen USA on her bid for the California title.
VENEZUELA

After Venezuela failed to land a spot in last year’s semis, they are definitely striving for a comeback this year. Indeed, Miss Venezuela’s performance during the preliminary competition is one of the most talked about. However, it would be a breath of fresh air if she tries to sport a different hairdo.
UKRAINE

Miss Ukraine is one of my favorites since their post-arrival days. When it comes to beauty, i would say that she is the complete opposite of Ana Poslovska, her predecessor, whose beauty is very much sweet and demure. Her’s is very sassy and fierce.
MALAYSIA

She may not have the best face in this year’s pageant but she definitely has one of the best catwalks in the bunch, pair this with her body, which is to die for, she will definitely earn her spot in the semis.
COSTA RICA

A classic Latina beauty. The color of her gown matches her golden-tan color. However its cut doesn’t flatter her curves. On the other hand, she did pretty well during the swimsuit round.
PERU

For the past few years, Peru’s performance hasn’t been that feisty unlike its fellow Latina delegates. However, their delegate for this year might redeem them from the curse that’s been plaguing them for years.
NETHERLANDS

Another blonde beauty. Miss Netherlands has captured the hearts of the universe during her stellar Preliminary performance. However, she tends to blend it with everyone else instead of standing out.
PUERTO RICO

Her evening gown and her performance has received a lot of praises from pageant experts during the preliminary round which very much resembles Zuleyka Rivera’s MU 2006 evening gown. However, she doesn’t seem to possess the over-all package for the much coveted crown. But still, she came from the country who bagged the crown twice for the past decade, a threat that shouldn’t be ignored.
THAILAND

Thailand, perhaps, has one of the largest fan base. As a matter of fact, she is one of the top delegates who are vying in the stop spot at NBCs online poll. However, she no longer needs a very large fan base to get noticed in this year’s pageant, for she did very well during the pre-pageant round.
PHILIPPINES

With a 37 years title drought, the Philippines is very thirsting for the Miss Universe crown. There is no better delegate for the Philippines than Shamcey. She has the complete package, brains, beauty, a body to die for. She is topping almost every online poll there is, the pageant experts love her. The thing now is, are those enough for her to earn a spot in the next round of the competition? I am sure we are all praying for that.
So there you have it guys! My top 15 for this year. Apart, from who’ll gonna be the winner this year, another much awaited part or the pageant are the controversies and scandals. What’ll happen this year? we’ll never know until we watch it tomorrow! ;)
